against coronavirus has shuttered European cities and created huge traffic jams
on what just a few weeks ago were open borders.

the best way to understand a new situation is to step back — in this case way,
way back — and get a look at what Europe under coronavirus lockdown looks like
from space.
Those
images show empty plazas and streets, and also contain practical information
that the European Commission is using in an effort to cajole countries into
letting traffic flow across closed borders.
