Caso das gémeas: Marcelo nega conhecer “diligências”
junto do Ministério da Saúde
Ao mesmo tempo que publicava o decreto de demissão do
Governo, o Presidente da República dava mais um esclarecimento sobre a polémica
que o atinge.

Marcelo Rebelo de
Sousa sacudiu esta quinta-feira à noite qualquer responsabilidade sobre um
alegado encontro em 2019 entre o seu filho, Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, e o então
secretário de Estado da Saúde, Lacerda Sales, noticiado pela TVI no âmbito do
caso das gémeas luso-brasileiras com a atrofia muscular espinal tratadas com um
dos medicamentos mais caros do mundo no Hospital de Santa Maria.
"Na
sequência das notícias hoje surgidas, o Presidente da República reafirma que
não teve conhecimento de quaisquer diligências junto do Ministério da Saúde no
caso das gémeas luso-brasileiras, após o envio do dossier para o Gabinete do
Primeiro-Ministro a 31 de Outubro de 2019", lê-se na nota publicada no
sítio da Presidência, em simultâneo com o decreto da demissão do Governo.
A TVI noticiou
esta noite que o então secretário de Estado da Saúde à data dos factos
encontrou-se com Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, filho do Presidente da República, quando
decorria este processo. Confrontado com a notícia, o agora deputado socialista
nunca desmente. "Nem desmentir, nem confirmar, porque são situações que só
em sede própria devem ser tratadas. Não devem ser tratadas na praça
pública", disse à entrada para a Assembleia da República à estação
televisiva.
É mais um
episódio num caso que tem estado a desgastar o Presidente da República e que já
o levou a dar explicações públicas, na segunda-feira, onde afastou qualquer
intervenção no caso, para além de ter recebido e reencaminhado emails sobre o
assunto para o Governo. Mas admitiu nessa comunicação que, afinal, tinha
recebido um email do filho, Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, a pedir o tratamento.
Disse ainda que
todas as comunicações internas da Presidência sobre esta situação foram
enviadas para a Procuradoria-Geral da República, onde corre um inquérito contra
incertos sobre este caso. Questionado sobre se tem condições para continuar,
Marcelo respondeu: "Ai certamente".

clarification on the controversy that affects him.

Marcelo
Rebelo de Sousa shook off this Thursday night any responsibility for an alleged
meeting in 2019 between his son, Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, and the then Secretary
of State for Health, Lacerda Sales, reported by TVI as part of the case of the
Luso-Brazilian twins with spinal muscular atrophy treated with one of the most
expensive drugs in the world at the Santa Maria Hospital.
"Following
the news that emerged today, the President of the Republic reaffirms that he
was not aware of any steps taken by the Ministry of Health in the case of the
Portuguese-Brazilian twins, after sending the dossier to the Prime Minister's
Office on October 31, 2019," reads the note published on the Presidency's
website, simultaneously with the decree of the Government's resignation.
TVI
reported tonight that the then Secretary of State for Health at the time of the
facts met with Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, son of the President of the Republic, when
this process was taking place. Confronted with the news, the now socialist
deputy never denies it. "Neither deny nor confirm, because these are
situations that should only be dealt with in a proper place. They should not be
treated in the public square," he told the television station at the
entrance to the Assembly of the Republic.
It is
another episode in a case that has been wearing down the President of the
Republic and that has already led him to give public explanations, on Monday,
where he ruled out any intervention in the case, in addition to having received
and forwarded emails on the subject to the Government. But he admitted in that
communication that, after all, he had received an email from his son, Nuno
Rebelo de Sousa, asking for the treatment.
He also
said that all internal communications from the Presidency on this situation
were sent to the Attorney General's Office, where an investigation is underway
against uncertain people about this case. Asked if he is able to continue,
Marcelo replied: "Oh certainly."
