Since the
beginning of August, more than 1,000 people have made it across the English
Channel from the French coastal town of Calais. Never before, have so many
refugees arrived via the channel across the channel. This is putting to the
test the British government's main Brexit promises: to take control of the UK's
borders. Now the Royal Navy and the air force are being deployed to stop
migrants from crossing the English channel. And additionally the British
government has come under criticism after newspaper reports that it's
considering plans to house asylum-seekers offshore on remote islands.
