Not the best start …
The EPP’s
pre-summit meeting at its headquarters on Rue du Commerce has been canceled due
to security concerns, according to two people who were meant to attend.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EPP heads of government and
other top politicians were planning to have an hour-long informal gathering
before the summit began. There was even speculation that von der Leyen might
use the occasion to quietly inform fellow EPP leaders about her intentions for
the next five years. Alas, the tractors and police chaos on the streets of
Brussels put paid to that.
