The
coronavirus has put voting by mail in focus ahead of the 2020 US presidential
election. Already gone in the United States are the large-scale rallies
and close-up encounters of 2016. Physical distancing also poses a logistical
headache for polling day. But the mail-in vote has critics, including President
Donald Trump. Recently appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is a major
Trump contributor who has invested heavily in corporations that stand to
benefit if the US Postal Service dies, and he seems to be doing what he can to
thwart mail delivery.
