The
Lisbon City Council announced this Thursday the creation of a mission team to
study the future technological system of the Glória elevator, in conjunction
with Carris. The group brings together representatives of the National
Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC), the Order of Engineers and the
Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), and will have its first meeting next week,
writes the Lusa agency.
The
decision follows the accident on September 3, when the Calçada da Glória
elevator derailed, causing 16 deaths and about two dozen injured, including
Portuguese and foreigners. In a statement, the municipality, led by Carlos
Moedas (PSD), stresses that the objective is to "design a new
technological system" that guarantees safety without compromising the
historical and cultural value of the elevator.
The mayor
said that, in addition to determining responsibility for the tragedy, it is
necessary to "look forward" and prepare solutions to restore
confidence to Lisboners and visitors. Among the measures already approved by
the municipal executive are also the creation of a fund to support victims and
the construction of a collective memorial in honor of the people who lost their
lives in the accident.

A Câmara
Municipal de Lisboa anunciou esta quinta-feira a criação de uma equipa de
missão para estudar o futuro sistema tecnológico do elevador da Glória, em
articulação com a Carris. O grupo reúne representantes do Laboratório Nacional
de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), da Ordem dos Engenheiros e do Instituto Superior
Técnico (IST), e terá a sua primeira reunião na próxima semana, escreve a
agência Lusa.
A decisão
surge na sequência do acidente de 3 de setembro, quando o ascensor da Calçada
da Glória descarrilou, provocando 16 mortos e cerca de duas dezenas de feridos,
entre portugueses e estrangeiros. Em comunicado, a autarquia, liderada por
Carlos Moedas (PSD), sublinha que o objetivo é “conceber um novo sistema
tecnológico” que garanta a segurança sem comprometer o valor histórico e
cultural do elevador.
O
presidente da câmara afirmou que, para além do apuramento de responsabilidades
pela tragédia, é necessário “olhar para a frente” e preparar soluções para
devolver confiança aos lisboetas e visitantes. Entre as medidas já aprovadas
pelo executivo municipal estão também a criação de um fundo de apoio às vítimas
e a construção de um memorial coletivo em homenagem às pessoas que perderam a
vida no acidente.
