Thousands of UK job losses announced as coronavirus hits economy hard

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has signed a decree declaring Instanbul's world-famous Hagia Sophia will be reopened for Muslim worship. His declaration about his country's most popular tourist destination comes after Turkey's highest administrative court revoked its status as a museum - clearing the way for it to be turned back into a mosque. Dozens of people gathered outside the building to celebrate. Built in the sixth-century as an Orthodox Christian Church, it's now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Greece and the Russian Orthodox Church have strongly criticized the change, while the United States and UNESCO have also expressed regret at the alteration of its status.

The chancellor may have woken up today to excited headlines welcoming his £30 billion pound plan for jobs, but by lunchtime he was confronted by the chilling reality of thousands more job losses. (Subscribe: https://bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Tonight the government announced a raft of new measures easing the lockdown in England. Outdoor pools, outdoor theatres and amateur sport will be allowed to return from this Saturday.
Beauticians, tattooists, spas and tanning salons can reopen from Monday while indoor gyms, pools and leisure centres can reopen from 25 July. In Scotland Nicola Sturgeon announced the largest lifting of lockdown measures so far.
