Belarus protest: How is Lukashenko's support outside Minsk? | DW News

People have taken to the streets of the Belarusian capital Minsk once again to demand President Alexander Lukashenko step down. The demonstrations began three weeks ago after he claimed an overwhelming re-election victory in a poll that observers called neither free nor fair. Lukashenko now says he will soon meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has offered to send in security forces to quell the protests. Members of the country's art and media communities and security services have resigned in protest of the brutal crackdown that followed the widely disputed result. DW correspondent Nick Connolly traveled outside the capital to to Soligorsk tosee how citizens elsewhere in the country have responded to their President's refusal to step aside.
