VVAB calls for a
total ban on holiday rentals
The VVAB has
responded to the proposal to ban holiday rentals in a number of neighbourhoods
(where the whole house is rented to tourists and the main resident temporarily
resides elsewhere). The association advocates a total ban.
It concerns the
Burgwallen Oude Zijde, Burgwallen Nieuwe Silk and Grachtengordel Zuid, where
according to the municipality the balance has been disturbed the most. For
other neighbourhoods where there is disruption to the balance sheet, a holiday
ban is seen as too heavy a means.
Although the
proposed policy is a step in the right direction, the VVAB is in favour of a
further reduction in the phenomenon of (tourist) holiday rental, in which whole
homes are rented out. Homes are to live in.
Now that plans to
keep the holiday rental phenomenon in tact, it basically comes down to
explaining the runner for organizations like Airbnb to pick up the thread once itpicks up
lucrative (nuisance)tourism. The VVAB urges the city council to reconsider its
policy intentions and to work towards a 'total ban' on holiday rentals, if
necessary in combination with a transitional arrangement.
If the city
council wants to continue the current plans - which the VVAB advises - the
association prefers an approach that covers all neighbourhoods of the inner
city, as well as the surrounding neighbourhoods where there is a high tourist
pressure/nuisance and the neighbourhoods where it is to be expected because of
the waterbed effect.

Participation
designation neighbourhoods with a ban on holiday rentals
Make your voice
heard!
The municipality
intends to designate three districts for which no holiday rental permits will
be issued as of 1 July 2020. The proposed decision is open to participation
until 28 May 2020. The VVAB calls on its members to make their voices heard!
From 1 July 2020
it will no longer be possible to rent out unlicensed homes in the form of
holiday rentals to tourists. There is a (legal) holiday rental if a resident
rents out his or her entire house (with license) for a period of less than 30
days per year, while that resident is on holiday herself. Renting for more than
30 days is not allowed anyway. Bed & Breakfast - where the whole property is not rented out
and the owner is present - is subject to a different arrangement.
The municipality
intends to designate three districts for which no holiday rental permits will
be issued as of 1 July 2020. The tourist pressure in these neighbourhoods is
already far too high and this ban must change that. It concerns the Burgwallen
- Old Silk, Burgwallen - New Silk and Canal Belt - South. The VVAB is enthusiastic
about this proposed decision and would like such a ban to apply to other
neighbourhoods with high tourist pressure: Nieuwmarkt/Lastage, Grachtengordel -
West, Jordaan, De Weteringschans, Haarlemmerbuurt, Oude Pijp and Weesperbuurt/Plantage.
The VVAB calls on
its members to make their voices heard individually and to express their
agreement with the ban and, if so, to advocate such a ban in the other
districts mentioned. This is possible until 28 May 2020.
