Sánchez
against everyone: prepares the transfer of 500 minors to the peninsula
The Ministry
of Youth and Children of the Government of Pedro Sánchez is preparing an
urgent transfer to the Peninsula of approximately 500 migrant minors
(mainly girls) who are in Ceuta after the massive entry registered at
the end of July.
This measure
has generated a strong political confrontation and the rejection of the
opposition, as well as tensions with the position defended by the European
institutions.
The key
points of the conflict
- Alternative reception formulas: To circumvent the refusal of
several autonomous communities to voluntarily take in minors, the Ministry
led by Sira Rego is considering using child protection organizations.
In this way, these entities would assume the care of minors in resources
of the Peninsula without the need to transfer legal guardianship to
the regional governments. The plan also continues to include the route of
a royal decree-law to establish a binding foster care or foster care.
- Opposition of the Popular Party: The PP has rejected the proposal put forward by the Executive. Its
spokeswoman in the Senate, Alicia García, defended that the "best
interests of the child" consists of returning to their families or
to the protection systems of their country of origin (Morocco), also
accusing the central government of lack of resources in the autonomous
regions.
- Discrepancy with the European
Union: Various
sectors and media, such as Euronews or La Razón reports, point out that this manoeuvre
clashes with the guidelines of the European Union, which supports
the return to Morocco of people who remain illegally in Ceuta as a
priority.
