Whether its climate change or the coronavirus pandemic,
President Trump repeatedly rejects advice from specialists. He refuses to follow the science. Earlier
this week, US President Trump visited California to see firsthand the
devastation left by those wildfires. Before he arrived he blamed the fires on
poor forest management and refused to admit that global warming is creating
conditions favorable to ever bigger, ever deadlier blazes. Scientists have
apparently decided it is no longer enough to let the facts speak for
themselves. This week "Scientific American" - the oldest magazine in
the US, ended a 175 year policy of staying out of presidential politics. The
magazine's editor in chief Laura Helmuth tweeted..."For the first time in
the 175-year history of Scientific American, we are endorsing a political
candidate. Please vote for Joe Biden to support science, health, the
environment, evidence-based policy, and reality over disinformation." DW
spoke to Laura Helmuth to ask how Scientific American came to the decision to
endorse Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden.
