With
criticism of the "radical left" but also of the Government, the
president of Chega reacted to the protests that took place in several cities
across the country, recognizing the problem of the housing crisis, both rent
prices and the difficulties in paying housing loans.
André
Ventura considers that the former prime minister, António Costa, is one of
those responsible for the current crisis for having allowed "the entry
into Portugal of about 1.6 million people".
"It was the uncontrolled entry of people
from outside who, naturally, need housing, that motivated one of the main
components of the housing crisis we have today", stressed the leader of
Chega.
He also
blames the Prime Minister and the Government for "selfishness" and
"lack of empathy". He considers, however, that the crisis cannot
justify "disrespect for police authorities and security forces or the
destruction of public property".
In this
communication, André Ventura put forward the proposal for an "emergency
legislative package" for housing, with measures such as the reassessment
of tax benefits for those in Portugal "with a lot of money to buy a
house".
Among the
proposed measures is also a revaluation of the IMI and a 50% increase in IRS
deductions for rents and housing credit.
