Why the Date Changed

Although the executive branch formally registered a request for Sánchez to address the plenary session on September 9, the Board of Spokespersons of the Congress voted to expedite the meeting. 

• Pressure from allies and opposition: Multiple parliamentary groups—including some of the government's own coalition partners—argued that waiting until September 9 was too late to address the ongoing situation. 
• Scheduling conflicts: The third vice president and minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, was already scheduled to address the Plenary on September 9.

Subject of the Appearance

Sánchez will lead a monographic plenary session specifically focused on detailing the government's handling of the migration crisis in Ceuta, following an influx where an estimated 80,000 people crossed the border. The session will address the ongoing humanitarian and administrative response to the events that began escalating around July 30.
