El
Trampolín beach, in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, was once again occupied by
migrants at the end of the morning, shortly after the completion of the
cleaning and disinfection work carried out by the municipal services.
At the
beginning of the day, the migrants who had spent the night at the site were
grouped between a breakwater and the wall of the Ceuta Desalination Plant,
fulfilling the condition imposed by the autonomous city to ensure the safety of
the cleaning teams. The operation took place under police escort, allowing the
removal of waste accumulated during weeks of occupation.
During
the work, according to international agencies, there was a continuous arrival
of more migrants at the site, many of them armed with bags of food distributed
by non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
As soon
as the intervention of the Directorate-General for the Environment and Urban
Services was over, the group returned to the beach, reinstalling tents and
erecting new shelters using improvised materials found in the area.
Migrants
were contained by police in an area while clearance operations were underway.

This
resumption of cleaning work comes after the suspension of the operation on
Thursday, the day on which dozens of transferred people had returned to collect
personal belongings, making it impossible to continue the service for safety
reasons.
The
cleanup was part of a broader plan to restore sanitary conditions and public
enjoyment of the coast, initiated after the evacuation on foot of more than
1200 people escorted by the Spanish police to temporary reception centers in
Loma Margarita, El Embolsamiento and Loma Colmenar.
Spokespeople
for organizations on the ground indicate that the migrants will remain in El
Trampolín as long as there are no alternative accommodations. The situation is
part of the migratory pressure in the territory of 80,000 inhabitants, where
about 72,000 people entered in a single day at the end of July, and it is
estimated that between 3,000 and 5,000 remain in the enclave.
