The President of NIKI Dimitris Natsios in the Parliament, against the backdrop of the Question on the state funding of the film "Odyssey" by Christopher Nolan and the protection of the Greek cultural heritage

The President of NIKI, Dimitris Natsios, submitted a Question to the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, regarding the state aid of more than 6.5 million euros. euros to the film production "Odyssey" by Christopher Nolan.

In his Question, he points out the serious institutional issue that arises when the Greek State finances international productions that derive prestige, content and commercial value from Homer and the top symbols of Greek cultural identity, without clear clauses for the protection of historical and cultural memory.

Dimitris Natsios requests that all the suggestions, opinions, evaluations, service notes and communication documents between the Ministry of Culture, EKKOMED and the production company be submitted to the Parliament, in order to reveal what the government knew about the script, the choices of the actors and the overall artistic direction of the film.

NIKI denounces the government's inaction towards a production that provokes fierce reactions for the depiction of emblematic figures of Greek mythology and asks for answers on how such a large funding was approved.

The President of NIKI directly raises the question of whether the government is legitimized to subsidize ideological distortions in the Homeric epics and calls on the Minister to answer whether she intends to revoke the funding for reasons of insulting our cultural heritage.
