Mother pleads for return of body of Indian woman killed as she slept in London

Baljeet Kaur, the grieving mother of 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur, has issued a desperate plea to return her daughter's body to India for final rites. Kirandeep, a student visa holder from Punjab who moved to the UK in 2024, was fatally stabbed by an intruder on July 12, 2026, while sleeping in her bed next to her husband and three-month-old baby in Hayes, West London.

Case Details

  • The Incident: On the morning of July 12, an intruder kicked in the door of the family's home on Uxbridge Road and stabbed Kirandeep in the chest. Her husband woke up to her screams, and she was pronounced dead shortly after.
  • The Suspect: Daniel Sean James, 44, has been arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed article. Prior to breaking into Kirandeep's home, he reportedly stabbed a man in his 20s on the street. He is currently remanded in custody, with a plea hearing set for October 1, 2026.]
  • The Family's Sacrifices: Kirandeep’s parents had sold all of their farmland in Piddi village, Punjab, to finance her move to the UK to seek a better future and help support her family.

The Appeal for Repatriation

Kirandeep's family in Punjab, devastated by the tragedy, are calling for justice and urgent aid. Her brother, Gurvinder Singh, stated that the family lacks the means and local contacts to handle the complex, expensive international repatriation procedures alone.

To support the family during this time, local organizations are mobilizing resources:

  • Sikh Community Support: Local gurdwaras, including the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall, have launched fundraising and crowdfunding appeals.
  • How to Support: Members of the public can seek verified donation links and follow local community updates published on the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall Official Page and global updates tracked via The Guardian to aid the family in meeting funeral and transport costs.
