LONDON —
Green leader Zack Polanski has been reported to police by Reform UK after
sharing an image which the party claims amounts to “incitement to murder.”
The image
— reposted to Polanski’s 700,000 followers — shows a man wearing a black
t-shirt featuring a guillotine and the words “we’re only making place for
Nigel.” — an apparent reference to the Reform UK leader.
Polanski
deleted the post, but Reform UK said it has reported him to police.
In a
statement, Zia Yusuf, Reform UK’s home affairs spokesperson, said: “Zack
Polanski has posted to his 713k Instagram followers a photo of a man in a
T-shirt depicting the beheading of Nigel Farage.
“To do
this just 2 weeks after our friend Ann was murdered is staggering. This is
incitement to murder. It should be treated as such by the police,” he said.
Ann
Widdecombe, a former Tory minister who was Reform UK’s justice spokesperson,
was found dead in her home in Devon earlier this month. Joshua Kerry, a
28-year-old man, was charged with her murder last week.
Sharing a
screenshot, Nigel Farage wrote on X: “If I was to post anything as inciteful
then I would expect to be arrested, and so should Polanski.”
A Green
spokesperson said: “Zack condemns the image on the T-shirt. He was tagged in a
post with 20 images and clicked accept without realizing there was more to it
than he had seen.”
The
spokesperson added that the t-shirt is in poor taste, and said the Greens call
on everyone involved in public discourse “to show kindness and not encourage
more division.”
The Met
Police said Monday they had received a third-party report relating to an image
shared on social media.
“We take
reports of this nature extremely seriously, and officers are conducting
enquiries into the matter.”
