New stabbing
practice in Ter Apel asylum center
On Monday evening, July 21, 2026 around
11:15 p.m., another stabbing took place at the application center for
asylum seekers in Ter Apel in which one person was injured. The
police arrested a suspect shortly after the incident at the Ter Apelervenen.

about the incident
- Victim: The injured victim was treated
on the spot by ambulance staff and then transferred to the hospital.
Shortly before, on July 20, a 20-year-old man was also injured in another
stabbing incident in the center.
- Suspect: The police were able to
immediately arrest a suspect and transfer him to the station.
- Investigation: Several objects have been
secured by the detectives for technical investigation. The exact
circumstances of the stabbing are still under investigation.

tensions
The incident
is in line with a series of violent incidents around the reception centre.
Previous fights and stabbing incidents in July 2026 already caused tensions to
rise sharply, forcing aid organizations such as the Red Cross to temporarily
cease their work on site.
