The
Portuguese Government admits to maintaining the state of alert throughout the
national territory during the next week, if the forecasts of intense heat and
the extreme risk of rural fire are confirmed. The announcement was made this
Saturday (July 4) by the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves,
during the operational balance carried out at the headquarters of the National
Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC).
The
current state of alert, which came into force at midnight on Friday, is
initially scheduled to end at 11:59 pm next Monday, July 6. However, in view of
the worsening weather conditions, the extension of the exceptional measures is
already under evaluation by the executive.
According
to the minister, the projections of Civil Protection and IPMA leave no room for
easiness. Luís Neves stressed that the country will continue to face unusually
high temperatures, low humidity levels and strong winds, which prompted the
warning that the territory is in an authentic "powder keg".
"Next
week will again be a very serious period. Maintaining the state of alert is on
the table if conditions are maintained," said the Minister of Internal
Administration.
The
minister also recalled the extreme weather data recorded in recent days, with
thermometers approaching or reaching 47 °C in some regions of the interior of
the country, accompanied by wind gusts in the order of 70 to 80 kilometers per
hour.
Reinforcement
of the initial attack and international aid
The
strategy of the rescue forces is to concentrate as many resources as possible
on the immediate suppression of fire outbreaks. Luís Neves explained that the
repositioning of resources on the ground aims to ensure maximum effectiveness
in the initial phase of the fire, revealing that about 94% to 95% of fires have
been extinguished in the first moments.
Even so,
due to the violence of the flames and the simultaneity of occurrences - such as
the large fire in Vouzela, where the authorities suspect a "criminal
hand" for having broken out at dawn - Portugal has moved forward with the
request for external support, namely the activation of the European Civil
Protection Mechanism and cooperation with Morocco. The minister confirmed that
he had contacted his Moroccan counterpart directly to coordinate the sending of
additional air resources: "I spoke an hour ago with my counterpart in
Morocco and I am waiting for a response soon," he detailed.
Prime
Minister's appeal
Present
at the same press conference by videoconference, the Prime Minister, Luís
Montenegro, reinforced the calls for civic responsibility of the population.
The head
of Government reiterated that the absolute priority is to maintain
"maximum vigilance" and strictly comply with the prohibitions in
force under the state of alert, such as the use of agricultural and forestry
machinery, and the total prohibition of burning and burning.

O Governo
português admite manter o estado de alerta em todo o território nacional
durante a próxima semana, caso se confirmem as previsões de calor intenso e o
risco extremo de incêndio rural. O anúncio foi feito este sábado (4 de julho)
pelo ministro da Administração Interna, Luís Neves, durante o balanço
operacional realizado na sede da Autoridade Nacional de Emergência e Proteção
Civil (ANEPC).
O atual
estado de alerta, que entrou em vigor à meia-noite de sexta-feira, está
inicialmente previsto terminar às 23h59 da próxima segunda-feira, 6 de julho.
Contudo, face ao agravamento das condições meteorológicas, a extensão das
medidas excecionais está já em avaliação pelo executivo.
De acordo
com o governante, as projeções da Proteção Civil e do IPMA não deixam margem
para facilitismos. Luís Neves sublinhou que o país continuará a enfrentar
temperaturas invulgarmente elevadas, baixos índices de humidade e ventos
fortes, o que motivou o aviso de que o território se encontra num autêntico
"barril de pólvora".
"A
próxima semana vai ser outra vez um período muito grave. Está em cima da mesa a
manutenção do estado de alerta se as condições se mantiverem", afirmou o
ministro da Administração Interna.
O
ministro relembrou ainda os dados meteorológicos extremos registados nos
últimos dias, com termómetros a aproximarem-se ou a atingirem os 47 °C em
algumas regiões do interior do país, acompanhados por rajadas de vento na ordem
dos 70 a 80 quilómetros por hora.
Reforço
do ataque inicial e ajuda internacional
A
estratégia das forças de socorro passa por concentrar o máximo de recursos na
supressão imediata dos focos de incêndio. Luís Neves explicou que o
reposicionamento de meios no terreno visa garantir a máxima eficácia na fase
inicial do fogo, revelando que cerca de 94% a 95% dos incêndios têm sido
extintos nos primeiros momentos.
Ainda
assim, devido à violência das chamas e à simultaneidade de ocorrências — como o
incêndio de grandes dimensões em Vouzela, onde as autoridades suspeitam de
"mão criminosa" por ter deflagrado de madrugada —, Portugal avançou
com o pedido de apoio externo, nomeadamente a ativação do Mecanismo Europeu de
Proteção Civil e a cooperação com Marrocos. O ministro confirmou ter contactado
diretamente o seu homólogo marroquino para articular o envio de meios aéreos
adicionais: "Falei há uma hora com o meu homólogo de Marrocos e estou à
espera de uma resposta em breve", detalhou.
Apelo do
primeiro-ministro
Presente
na mesma conferência de imprensa por videoconferência, o primeiro-ministro,
Luís Montenegro, reforçou os apelos à responsabilidade cívica da população.
O chefe
do Governo reiterou que a prioridade absoluta passa por manter uma
"vigilância máxima" e cumprir rigorosamente as proibições em vigor
sob o estado de alerta, tais como o uso de maquinaria agrícola e florestal, e a
total interdição de queimas e queimadas.
