The
president of Chega will announce on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 2,
whether or not the party will move forward with a motion of censure on the
Government, after on Tuesday night André Ventura said that he was "more
inclined to move forward".
The party
has scheduled for 16:30 a statement by the leader on the possible motion of
censure, which will take place at the headquarters of Chega, in Lisbon.
Last
week, André Ventura had already admitted to moving forward with a motion of
censure if the prime minister did not resolve the situation of the Minister of
Internal Affairs, which he considered to have reached a "grotesque"
and "unacceptable" level, and set a deadline of this Tuesday.
On
Monday, the leader of Chega said that he would meet the party's bodies the next
day to make a "final decision" on the presentation of a motion of
censure to the Government of Luís Montenegro.
On
Tuesday late afternoon, Ventura said he had not yet made a decision, referring
"probably" to today, as he would still be listening to the party
organs.
Hours
later, in an interview with CNN Portugal, the president of Chega reiterated
that the decision had not yet been made and referred to today.
"I
am more inclined to move forward than not to move forward," he said,
noting that there is also "a very broad consensus" within the party
that a motion of censure "can make sense".
