Milo Yiannopoulos has stated he is “very ashamed” of his past support for Donald Trump after being detained and swiftly deported from the United States by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The far-right British commentator spoke out during a September 1, 2026 interview with Piers Morgan on NewsNight, marking a total reversal of his previous political stance.

The Deportation Details

• The Arrest & Removal: Yiannopoulos was arrested by ICE at New Orleans International Airport after overstaying his visa. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), an immigration judge had issued a final order of removal on July 22, 2026, after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for a scheduled hearing. He was deported back to the United Kingdom.
• His Defense: Yiannopoulos claimed that he did not intentionally skip the hearing. He alleged that the government maliciously sent notices to an old address so he would be tried "in absentia," framing the ordeal as an underhanded setup to make an example out of him.

Change of Perspective on Trump and ICE

The situation highlights a sharp irony, as Yiannopoulos was previously one of Trump's most vocal supporters regarding hardline immigration policies. He had previously posted on social media calling for the deportation of "millions and millions of people" and demanding ICE checkpoints at supermarkets, gas stations, and intersections.

Following his time in ICE custody, Yiannopoulos changed his tune:

• Regret Over Support: He told Morgan, “If I had any clue that anything remotely like this was even possible, I would never have gotten involved in supporting Trump in the first place and I'm very ashamed that I did.” He went on to call Trump an “ugly, warmongering, whole mentally ill heap of crazy.”
• Claims of Brutality: He described his detention as painful, terrifying, and physically degrading, stating that the American system treats everyone arrested "like an MS-13 gang member."
• A New Outlook: He admitted that he had previously been cavalier and blasé when others spoke about their trauma regarding the criminal justice and immigration systems, adding, "but I get it now... I wouldn't wish it on anyone."
• Criticism of Mass Raids: Yiannopoulos criticized ICE for sweeping up immigrants without criminal records rather than focusing strictly on violent offenders.

Yiannopoulos also placed blame on fellow far-right activist Laura Loomer, who publicly claimed she tipped off federal authorities about his immigration status.
