Iran military says Trump is 'negotiating with himself'

On March 25, 2026, an Iranian military spokesperson dismissed President Donald Trump's recent claims of progress in ceasefire negotiations, stating that the U.S. is effectively "negotiating with itself". These comments follow Trump's assertions that Tehran "wants a deal so badly" to end the ongoing conflict.

Key Developments in the Dispute

The Mockery: Lt. Col. Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, taunted the U.S. administration on state television, asking, "Has the level of your inner struggle reached the stage of you negotiating with yourself?".

Trump's Claims: Trump told reporters on Tuesday that productive talks were happening "right now" and that Iran had agreed to never possess a nuclear weapon. He also mentioned a "very big present" from Iran related to oil and gas.

The 15-Point Plan: Reports indicate the U.S. sent a 15-point peace proposal to Tehran via mediators in Pakistan. The plan reportedly includes dismantling nuclear facilities and stopping support for proxy groups in exchange for lifting sanctions.

Iran's Hardline Stance: Iranian officials, including the Foreign Ministry, have denied any direct or indirect talks, citing a "very bad experience with American diplomacy" and accusing Washington of attacking during previous negotiations.

Escalating Tensions: Despite the talk of peace, the Pentagon is reportedly deploying approximately 1,000 to 2,000 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, while military strikes between Israel, the U.S., and Iran continue.
