Far-right
candidate projected to turn in strong performance in Marseille
Franck
Allisio of the far-right National Rally and incumbent center-left mayor Benoît
Payan are both on track to score more than 30 percent in the first round of the
race to lead Marseille, according to estimates from various pollsters.
The
projections vary though. One from Ifop had Payan up by five points, while
another from Ipsos had the candidates on track to tie with 35.4 percent of the
vote each.
“We are
very happy”, said a Franck Allisio aid. “We’ve never had such a score in
Marseille.”
The Ipsos
poll had hard-left candidate Sébastien Delogu and center-right candidate
Martine Vassal follow, tied with 12.3 percent, would both be qualified for the
run-off.
Should
those results hold, all eyes will turn to Delogu and Vassal. They must decide
whether or not to drop out to avoid
