Far right
ahead in the French Riviera’s capital
Eric
Ciotti, an ally of Marine Le Pen, is on track to finish first in Nice,
according to pollster Ifop, with 42.5 percent of the vote.
He’s
leading the incumbent center-right mayor, Christian Estrosi, who is projected
to net 31.6 percent of the vote.
Nice,
France’s fifth-most populous city, would be the biggest ever win for the
far-right.
A
left-wing candidate, Juliette Chesnel-Le Roux has also made the runoff, per the
estimate.
She could
drop out to keep the far right away from power in what promises to be one of
the most-watched runoff contests next Sunday.
