Anxiety
and disappointment among firebrand Sarah Knafo’s supporters
There is
growing angst among supporters of far-right anti-immigration MEP Sarah Knafo in
Paris, as estimates roll in for the mayoral race. The 32-year-old Knafo was set
to upset predictions, with polls suggesting she might advance to the second
round in what would be a historic first for a far-right candidate in the French
capital.
According
to Harris Interactive, Knafo now looks to receive 11 percent of the vote, just
crossing the 10 percent threshold to qualify for the runoff, placing her behind
four other candidates, including the center-left Emmanuel Grégoire and
conservative Rachida Dati.
“We might
not make it,” said one supporter as the estimates appeared on a giant screen in
the room.
