German drug maker BioNTech says it's planning to produce 2
billion doses of its coronavirus vaccine this year - more than 50 percent up on
its initial projected output. The announcement comes as German Chancellor
Angela Merkel promises that everyone who wants to be vaccinated will be offered
doses by the end of the summer. That promise is giving rise to the idea of
issuing "passports" for people who have been immunized. Supporters
say this would allow people to return to normal life. Critics fear it could violate
data protection laws.
But there are other reasons to be cautious about the idea of
vaccination certificates. DW Reporter Joel Dullroy has been looking into the
flourishing online market for coronavirus scams.
