NATO
leaders on Monday sought to downplay speculation over a potential U.S. troop
reduction in Europe, following reports of a strategic review by Washington. At
the B9 and Nordic summit in Vilnius, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte
reaffirmed American commitment to the alliance, while urging European nations
to increase defense spending. Polish President Andrzej Duda said he had
received no indication from President Donald Trump of any planned withdrawal,
and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that U.S. forces remain
stationed alongside European allies. The Hague Summit, scheduled for later this
month, is expected to address the transatlantic security dynamic and formalize
new burden-sharing targets.
