The
elements of the PSP, the investigating judge and the prosecutor Rosário
Teixeira found 75,800 euros in cash in Vítor Escária's office at the official
residence of the prime minister, reports SIC Notícias and confirmed PÚBLICO.
The money was divided into several envelopes
and hidden in books, on several shelves, and inside wine boxes.
The searches of the office of the Prime
Minister's chief of staff, António Costa, were carried out on Tuesday
afternoon, having begun while the Prime Minister was making a statement to the
country announcing that he had asked the President of the Republic to resign.
The research team was at the São Bento Palace from 2 pm on Tuesday until after
dinner time.
In the searches of Vítor Escária's office, no
material directly linked to the prime minister was seized, but the digital
evidence collected, such as electronic agenda, emails, SMS and WhatsApp
conversations, will be analyzed in the coming weeks and only then will it be
possible to verify if there are references to António Costa.
PÚBLICO also found that a small amount of
hashish was seized at the home of the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba,
but within the legal value admissible by law for self-consumption. There were
also seized mobile phones and computers to extract information, such as
WhatsApp emails and sms.
António Costa's chief of staff was arrested
early in the morning at his home, where the team of investigators from
Operation Influencer has been carrying out searches since 7 am, as well as
Costa's close consultant, Diogo Lacerda Machado, and the mayor of Sines, the
socialist Nuno Mascarenhas, as well as two company executives.
corrected at 9:30 am with the information that
the hashish was seized and not just found
