WASHINTON
(TNND) — Dan Bongino has returned to the life of a private citizen after
serving as the Deputy Director of the FBI under the Trump administration.
Bongino
announced on X Saturday that it was his last day on the job and "last post
on this account."
Tomorrow
I return to civilian life. It’s been an incredible year thanks to the
leadership and decisiveness of President Trump. It was the honor of a lifetime
to work with Director Patel, and to serve you, the American people,"
Bongino wrote. "See you on the other side."
Bongino
announced he would be leaving his role at the FBI in January in mid-December.
Hours
before Bongino shared the news, President Donald Trump told reporters that
Bongino wanted to go back to his show.
Dan did a
great job," Trump said when a reporter asked him about Bongino. "I
think he wants to go back to his show."
His
resignation ends a brief tenure in which he clashed with the Department of
Justice over the Jeffrey Epstein files and was forced to reconcile the
realities of his law enforcement job with provocative claims he made in his
prior role as a podcast host.
Bongino's
exit leaves Andrew Bailey as the FBI's other deputy director. Bailey was
appointed as a co-deputy director in September.
