Ursula
von der Leyen was back in the European Parliament on Monday to defend herself
against no-confidence motions brought by opposition lawmakers.
Just
three months after she survived a Parliament vote on her leadership of the
European Commission, von der Leyen faces two more confidence motions, both of
which were debated Monday evening. Here’s why we think it won’t be her last.
The
far-right Patriots for Europe group took von der Leyen to task over her trade
policy, namely the EU’s Mercosur trade deal and the EU-U.S. trade deal. The
Left group criticized von der Leyen’s trade policy and accused her of
“complicity in genocide” in Gaza.
The votes
on von der Leyen’s future will take place on Thursday.
