On March 6, 2026, British counter-terrorism police arrested four men suspected of spying for Iran and targeting locations and individuals within the Jewish community in the London area.

Key Details of the Arrests

Suspects: The group consists of one Iranian national and three dual British-Iranian nationals, aged 22, 40, 52, and 55.

Charges: They were detained under the National Security Act 2023 on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service.

Locations: Arrests and searches were conducted at addresses in Barnet (North London), Harrow (West London), and Watford (Hertfordshire), with further searches in Wembley.

Additional Arrests: Six other men, aged between 20 and 49, were also taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Context of the Investigation

Commander Helen Flanagan, head of London Counter Terrorism Policing, stated that these arrests are part of a "long-running investigation" intended to disrupt malign foreign activity.

The operation follows years of warnings from MI5 regarding Iranian-backed plots on British soil. In late 2024, the head of MI5 reported that authorities had tracked over 20 potentially lethal plots linked to Iran targeting dissidents and the Jewish community. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood reassured the public that security services are monitoring the situation closely to keep Britain safe from these potential threats.

The Community Security Trust (CST), which monitors antisemitism, thanked the police for their actions and noted that security remains strong across the Jewish community.
