Context
of the Investigation
Commander
Helen Flanagan, head of London Counter Terrorism Policing, stated that these
arrests are part of a "long-running investigation" intended to
disrupt malign foreign activity.
The
operation follows years of warnings from MI5 regarding Iranian-backed plots on
British soil. In late 2024, the head of MI5 reported that authorities had
tracked over 20 potentially lethal plots linked to Iran targeting dissidents
and the Jewish community. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood reassured the public
that security services are monitoring the situation closely to keep Britain
safe from these potential threats.
The
Community Security Trust (CST), which monitors antisemitism, thanked the police
for their actions and noted that security remains strong across the Jewish
community.
