ONION is
taking INFOWARS over
As of
April 2026, The Onion has reached a new deal to take over InfoWars, aiming to
relaunch the site as a parody of itself. This latest development follows years
of legal battles after Alex Jones was ordered to pay over $1.3 billion in
defamation judgments to the families of Sandy Hook victims.
Key
Details of the Takeover
The Deal
Structure: Rather than a direct purchase, the new agreement is a licensing deal
where The Onion's parent company, Global Tetrahedron, will pay $81,000 per
month to use the InfoWars domain and brand.
New
Leadership: The Onion has reportedly brought on comedian Tim Heidecker (of Tim
and Eric) to help run the site, with plans to parody the "modus
operandi" of conspiracy-driven media.
Purpose:
The goal is to "degrade" Jones's platform and turn his
"machinery of lies" into a force for social good. Profits from the
new venture are intended to help repay the families who sued Jones.
Status:
The deal still requires final approval from a Texas judge. A hearing is
scheduled for late April 2026.
Alex
Jones's Response
Alex
Jones has vowed to fight the takeover, calling the move "incredible
corruption" and an attempt to "steal his identity". He has
already begun directing followers to a new site, the Alex Jones Network, and
continues to broadcast from a mirror site while the legal process plays out.
