A líder da Iniciativa Liberal (IL) afirmou esta segunda-feira, 29 de setembro, que o partido deverá votar favoravelmente a proposta de revisão da lei de estrangeiros, na terça-feira, por considerar que o novo diploma ultrapassa as dúvidas do Tribunal Constitucional.

 

Trata-se de um “tema já amplamente discutido na Assembleia da República, sabemos que o Governo pecou por não ter resolvido parte dos problemas, que está a tentar resolver agora, em que culminou no chumbo por parte do Tribunal Constitucional”, afirmou Mariana Leitão, falando aos jornalistas, à margem de uma ação de pré-campanha para as autárquicas de outubro, em Oeiras.

 

A reapreciação da lei de estrangeiros, após o chumbo em agosto pelo Tribunal Constitucional, será feita na terça-feira de manhã e Mariana Leitão considera que foi feito um “caminho no sentido de corrigir alguns dos alertas”.

 

O novo diploma admite, nalguns casos, prazos mais curtos de residência para os pedidos de reagrupamento familiar de estrangeiros, a principal crítica dos juízes, pelo que a proposta “não terá objeção” dos liberais e, “em princípio”, o “voto favorável”.

 

“É urgente que entre em vigor, para garantirmos que a imigração é regulada, tem regras para, não só garantimos a sustentabilidade do nosso país, dos serviços públicos, mas também a dignidade das pessoas que querem entrar e que querem, obviamente, também ter previsibilidade com o que é que podem contar”, acrescentou Mariana Leitão.

 

Por isso, “é óbvio que queremos que esta lei entre em vigor rapidamente e colaboraremos nesse sentido”, acrescentou.

 

Trata-se de uma “lei urgente que deve entrar em vigor rapidamente e grande parte dos problemas levantados pelo Tribunal Constitucional ficam já resolvidos nesta nova versão que o Governo apresentou”, resumiu a líder da IL.

The leader of the Liberal Initiative (IL) said this Monday, September 29, that the party should vote in favor of the proposal to revise the law on foreigners, on Tuesday, as it considers that the new diploma overcomes the doubts of the Constitutional Court.

 

This is a "topic already widely discussed in the Assembly of the Republic, we know that the Government has sinned by not having solved part of the problems, which it is trying to solve now, which culminated in the lead by the Constitutional Court", said Mariana Leitão, speaking to journalists, on the sidelines of a pre-campaign action for the October local elections,  in Oeiras.

 

The reconsideration of the law on foreigners, after the lead in August by the Constitutional Court, will be made on Tuesday morning and Mariana Leitão considers that a "path has been made towards correcting some of the alerts".

 

The new law admits, in some cases, shorter residence periods for requests for family reunification of foreigners, the main criticism of the judges, so the proposal "will have no objection" from the liberals and, "in principle", the "favorable vote".

 

"It is urgent that it comes into force, to ensure that immigration is regulated, it has rules to, not only guarantee the sustainability of our country, of public services, but also the dignity of people who want to enter and who obviously also want to have predictability with what they can count on," added Mariana Leitão.

 

Therefore, "it is obvious that we want this law to come into force quickly and we will collaborate in this regard", he added.

 

This is an "urgent law that must come into force quickly and most of the problems raised by the Constitutional Court are already resolved in this new version that the Government presented", summarized the IL leader.
